In the beginning there was joystick movement with a button, and it was good. From there, controllers have added more joysticks, and more buttons. Aiming. Motion capture. even Audio.

But now, with all of these combined with a 6″ touchscreen display, the possibilities for Wii Games (and computer interfaces) just got even more interesting as seen in just a few of the tech demos shown here.

Tactile interaction and drawing? Seeing a baseball game from both players’ perspective simultaneously? Seeing not only where your golfer is standing, but where the ball is lying on the ground in front of you? Aiming with picture-in-picture sniper clarity? Cool.

I hate to think of all the money, lasers and inked needles you’d need to bust out every time a friend changes their Facebook profile picture.

I’ve wanted something like this for a while to make it more straightforward for webkit animation/development. Looks like I’m still waiting for it to become a reality, though Wallaby does look interesting in the mean time.

Toy Photography by Avanaut

Posted on May 10, 2011 by

Vesa Lehtimäk (Avanaut) is more than a run-of-the-mill Lego photographer. He’s a master of creating controlled analog atmospheric environments, perfecting the lighting, and photographing everything on an immaculate macro level. The results have a softness and freezeframe effect that looks well beyond any other toy photography I’ve seen. Gizmodo has this interesting article on how he shoots things. Adobe Photoshop CS5 iPad/device Integration

Posted on April 11, 2011 by

According to the latest announcements at MacWorld, Adobe is now allowing 3rd party access to Photoshop via a software developer kit (SDK). So what? This means that (for example) tablets, phones, and other apps are now able to interact and extend Photoshop’s capabilities in unique new ways.

As seen below, the iPad has some fascinating new apps coming out soon. The first 3 iPad apps are to be known as Adobe Color Lava, Adobe Eazel, and Adobe Nav. You can get more in-depth reviews of each at the MacWorld article.

A Camera that learns what it’s watching

Posted on April 6, 2011 by

Check out this amazing detail recognition and tracking camera technology, code-named “Predator”. Not only can you show it something to watch, it will learn how that reference looks even as it moves, rotates and reappears in other forms (like a photo). To learn more about the inventor, check out Zdenek Kalals’ page on it.

No doubt this guy already has a cushy job working for his local spy network.

How to Solve Creative Blocks

Some incredibly inspiring words of wisdom from actor Rainn Wilson, speaking on camera for Big Think

I Originally found this while cruising through this insightful post entitled “How to Steal Like an Artist”. While I don’t agree 100% with everything Austin has to say about the nature of the creative process, he nails a lot of good stuff right on the head, including this gem:
