While the above technical demo video of this new technology may seem less inspiring, It’s mindblowing once it sinks in how radically “traditional digital photography” will be left behind once the tech hits the market.
The interactive demo hosted at Lytro is much more breathtaking at its ability to help visualize what it feels like to have a photo that is freed from the constraints of a defined focus.
Fast Company has further ramblings on some of the many possible impacts this could have on the market.
I’m not really even quite sure what this is but it’s awesome in its sound design, lighting and mood.
In honor of our company outing to see the latest Tron film, Tron: Legacy, here’s some great Fandago coverage of the film. Great insight into all the work that goes into the acting and production value that goes a film this mind-blowing, including some cool insights into the technology used around 2:00.
While it’s no doubt just another post-effect gimmick, you can’t argue that tilt-shift “miniaturization” effects are fun to play with to achieve extreme selective focus. Photoshop would give you way more control, yet TiltShiftMaker has a handy little tool to let you play with effects on any photo without requiring any expensive software or major fine tuning.
So by now, you’ve presumably seen and been amazed by the incredibly fast new content-aware fills in Photoshop CS5 that can basically delete objects from a photo. However, you may not have seen a similar principle being applied real time to video footage. While it’s not perfect yet, the results and demos are amazing.
