Surfing Stormtrooper Vacation Photos

Posted on October 7, 2011 by

I don’t often post links over to tumblr (for no apparent reason). Hopefully this post helps change that. Here we have a sweet concept in uniting traveling the globe, surfing, and wearing stormtrooper masks. All captured with some sweet photography. Check out a few below or just click here for the full Surfing Trooper tumblr site.

2D Photography Rube Goldberg Machine

Who doesn’t love a good Rube Goldberg machine? While it lacks some of the polish of the Honda machine, this video from 2D Photography has plenty of jaw dropping continuity.

Vibrations. At 1000fps

Posted on June 24, 2011 by

As a nice contrast to yesterday’s time lapse photography, here’s some ultra high frame-rate footage of things vibrating.

This piece was done for a vibration testing equipment manufacturer Fluke, as discovered via Gizmodo.

Manhattan In Motion — Time Lapse of NYC

Mindrelic – Manhattan in motion from Mindrelic on Vimeo.

What can I say? Stop motion photography is cool. And Mandrelic seems to be a master in the making. Even his other tests manage to add a subtle sense of depth and motion that goes beyond just “speeding things up”. I applaud his patience and consistency as it’s paying off big time. Would be cool to see this with some more dramatic music.

While the above technical demo video of this new technology may seem less inspiring, It’s mindblowing once it sinks in how radically “traditional digital photography” will be left behind once the tech hits the market.

The interactive demo hosted at Lytro is much more breathtaking at its ability to help visualize what it feels like to have a photo that is freed from the constraints of a defined focus.

Fast Company has further ramblings on some of the many possible impacts this could have on the market.

Vesa Lehtimäk

Toy Photography by Avanaut

Posted on May 10, 2011 by

Vesa Lehtimäk (Avanaut) is more than a run-of-the-mill Lego photographer. He’s a master of creating controlled analog atmospheric environments, perfecting the lighting, and photographing everything on an immaculate macro level. The results have a softness and freezeframe effect that looks well beyond any other toy photography I’ve seen. Gizmodo has this interesting article on how he shoots things. Cheap Tilt-Shift Effects

Posted on October 25, 2010 by

While it’s no doubt just another post-effect gimmick, you can’t argue that tilt-shift “miniaturization” effects are fun to play with to achieve extreme selective focus. Photoshop would give you way more control, yet TiltShiftMaker has a handy little tool to let you play with effects on any photo without requiring any expensive software or major fine tuning.
